  • Signing up is nice and easy. Click on the "Sign up" button at the top and fill in your details, choose a fundraising goal and upload a photo. Adding your story and your ‘why’ let's friends and whānau know why you’re so passionate about this cause and will help raise more money.

  • You can move your butt however you like as long as you can track your kilometres. So walk, run, bike, swim, ebike, treadmill, exercycle - and help beat bowel cancer.

  • It is definitely a challenging distance, so we have options you can choose from, including 50km, or you can set your own distance.

You can also team up with friends and family to hit the 100km goal. It’s all about just giving it a go!

  • Click on the log-in button in the top banner of your fundraising page, next to the ‘Donate’ button and enter your username and password.

  • Your username is the email address you used during registration – contact [email protected] if you can’t remember the email you registered with.

It's easy to reset your password, just head to the login page and click "Forgot password?". It'll send you an email, then you'll be on your way. If you didn't receive the email, make sure you check your junk or spam folder. It might take a few minutes to arrive. Any problems just email us.

  • The challenge begins on the 1st Feb 2025, but you can start whenever it suits you.

You can join and start anytime during January & February. We appreciate all your fundraising efforts.

  • Yes, but first, you MUST log in to the back end of your page and then you’ll see on the left-hand side, a ‘Manage Fitness App’ button. This will give you the option of connecting with Strava or Fitbit and is a terrific way to show your supporters all the work you’re putting in.

For Strava and especially Fitbit, you need to start and stop an exercise plus save it for this activity to be recorded as a walk or run on your fundraising page.

Fitbit tracks distance walked throughout the day, but this isn't recorded as an activity.

  • Strava is an app that allows you to track your exercise.

Strava has both a free and a subscription tier. For the purposes of this challenge, the free tier will be more than enough.

To use Strava, download it from your phone’s App Store. Once downloaded, create your account and make sure it’s set to ‘Public’.

After your account is created, log in to the back end of your fundraising page and click the ‘Manage Fitness App’ button on the left. It will prompt you to log in once more and authorise Grassrootz to connect with Strava. Select Yes.

Once authorised, any exercise you do (and save) within the Strava app will be automatically attributed to your challenge total.

  • You MUST log in to the back end of your page first, and then there will be a ‘Recent Updates’ heading at the top.

Under this, it asks you to give an update - there are icons on the left of a ‘photo’ and a ‘person walking’. Click on the photo icon to add an image update and the person walking icon to open up ‘Training Updates’, which is where you can add your KMs.

  • Move Your Butt is all about getting Kiwis moving in honour of the 100 lives lost to bowel cancer each month.

KMs won’t automatically reset on 1st February, as this flexibility allows patients, their families, and other participants to start logging their activity earlier if needed.

For those who prefer to start fresh on 1st February, we’ve explained how to reset your KMs in the question below. This way, you can tailor the challenge to your goals while supporting an important cause.

  • All you need to do is log in to your page and click ‘remove update’ on the right below the KMs you logged that day.

If you do this for any logged-in Jan, you will have a clean slate come 1st Feb.

  • When you sign up, you will automatically receive an email inviting you to manage your page from Grassrootz - it may have gone to your junk email. This allows you to set a password and do updates to your page.

Fundraising Questions

  • There is no set amount, every dollar counts and is so appreciated! We do recommend setting a target though and don’t go too low, Kiwis are a generous bunch.

  • By signing up, you will have created your own Move Your Butt fundraising page. This page has a unique URL / link that you can share with family, friends and colleagues to encourage donations.

On your fundraising page, people can donate through our secure payment gateway using a valid Visa or Mastercard credit card.

  • Just click the donate button on your fundraising page. Get the ball rolling and show your commitment by donating to yourself! Fundraisers who make their own donation raise more than those who don’t and receive larger donations from their friends and family.

Make as generous a donation as you can to demonstrate your commitment to the cause. If you’re not able to donate to yourself, think of someone you can ask to get you started.

  • When talking about why you’re fundraising, make sure you speak from the heart. People are chipping in because this cause is important to you. Tell a personal story about why you've taken this incredible step to fundraise for Bowel Cancer NZ.

If it's your first-time fundraising, asking for donations can be daunting. But don't be scared, friends and whānau want to support you. Keep posting on your social media channels (don’t forget to add your fundraising page link) as that shows how committed you are to raising vital funds.

  • Yes! Head to our Resources page for a range of social media resources, email templates, toolkits, posters and more.

  • Use the icons on your page to share it with friends and followers: via Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Email, and you can create a URL link or QR code that you can copy and paste to share.

  • Getting donations is exciting, but make sure you say thanks! You can thank your donors by first logging into your fundraising page, scrolling down to your donation feed, and clicking 'say thanks’ to add a comment for each donation.

  • Don't worry, that often happens. There are two ways to go about this. You can transfer the cash by simply donating to your own fundraising page using your credit card. Or you can transfer to our bank account with the details below. Please remember to send us an email at [email protected] to confirm any deposits so we can link them to your fundraising page to show in your total.

 Team Questions

  • Absolutely! In fact, we encourage it as it’s great to have the support of friends, whānau and workmates during your challenge. Check out how to do this here https://moveyourbutt.org.nz/teams

  • When you sign up for the Move Your Butt challenge, the form will first ask if you are fundraising in a team. If you choose ‘Yes - I want to fundraise in a new team’, you can set up a team page.

If a little further down the form you check, ‘I'd also like to create a fundraising page for myself’ you can also set up your individual fundraising page at the same time.

  • When you sign up for the Move Your Butt challenge, select ‘Yes - I'm fundraising in an existing team’ and choose the team's name from the drop-down menu. Continue to set up your individual page.

If you have already signed up for Move your Butt, you can still join a team by logging into your fundraising page and selecting 'Join or Create a Team’ on the left-hand side.

  • If you’ve already set up your individual fundraising page and would like to form a team, simply login to your fundraising page and select ‘Join or Create a team’ on the left-hand side.

  • Teams can claim a free t-shirt for each member who individually raises $300. Once a team member reaches this fundraising milestone, they’ll automatically qualify for their t-shirt, and we’ll arrange for it to be sent to them once they fill in the claim form.

Keep up the great work and encourage your team to hit their goals together! 🎉
